The Theatre Royal Brighton
The history of this beautiful Grade II listed building dates back almost 200 years. The Prince of Wales gave his Royal Assent for the building of a Theatre on the New Road site in the summer of 1806. At the end of the nineteenth century the Theatre was described as being 'in the first rank, so far as the comfort and convenience of both audience and artists are concerned'.
A general air of glamour and prosperity was maintained throughout the fifties and virtually every English actor and actress of note appeared at the Theatre Royal Brighton during those years. In 1959 the Queen made the first of several private visits to the Theatre, continuing the strong tradition of Royal visits.
The Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), the second biggest Theatre operator in the UK, acquired the Theatre from the Land family in June 1999 bringing expertise, experience and investment to this historic institution. Owners of a growing stable of regional and London Theatres, ATG has re-established the venue's position as one of the most favoured pre West End dates.

The King's Theatre, Glasgow
The King's, Glasgow is one of Scotland's most historic and significant theatres.
It opened in 1904 as one of the most brilliant designs of the prolific theatre architect Frank Matcham and has played host to top stars and shows ever since. It is home to possibly the very best Christmas pantomime to be seen in the United Kingdom which over the years has featured the Scottish greats including Stanley Baxter, Jimmy Logan, Rikki Fulton, Jack Milroy, Elaine C Smith and Gerard Kelly.
The King's provides Glasgow's flourishing amateur groups with a high profile stage and was the location for the opening ceremony of Glasgow's European City of Culture events in 1990. Above all, it continues to pack in appreciative audiences performance after performance and throughout the year.
On September 30 2002 Ambassador Theatre Group took on the management of the King's (Glasgow City Council remains the owner). The theatre continues to present first class musicals and pantomime alongside a wider range of drama, dance and comedy.

The Opera House, Manchester
The New Theatre, as it was named, opened on Boxing Day 1912. Struggling to compete with other establishments, it was sold to United Theatre Ltd in 1915 and was renamed the New Queens Theatre.
Between the years of 1916 and 1920, Sir Thomas Beecham chose to perform there on several occasions and it was in honour of this great man that, in August of that year, the theatre was renamed The Opera House.
Over the years this building has ‘seen’ life change around her. Surviving the Second World War, it operated as a cinema for a time and later became a bingo hall.
In 1984 the Opera House became a theatre once more and over the years, has staged the most magnificent shows such as Barnum, Phantom of the Opera, Oliver and many more.
After major refurbishment in 2003 the Opera House continues to attract the best in entertainment, standing proud on Quay Street as a part of Manchester History.

Milton Keynes Theatre
Milton Keynes Theatre opened on 4 October 1999, 25 years after the campaign for a new theatre first started and has placed Milton Keynes firmly on the country's cultural map.
The National Lottery award, amounting to £19.6 million kick-started the actual construction of the theatre and the Milton Keynes Theatre and Gallery Company was set up to continue to develop the project. Further capital to meet the £30 million costs came from English Partnerships (formerly Commission for New Towns) as well as fundraising in the town.
The new theatre is the latest state of the art building, with the most technically advanced equipment available. Designed by architects Blonski-Heard, the new theatre accommodates a vast range of productions, from large-scale West End musicals, to smaller, more intimate drama. The auditorium ceiling has been carefully designed to accommodate various shows and can be lowered or raised depending on the scale of the production. The seating can also be moved around within the auditorium to vary the capacity from between 900 and 1,400.
The theatre stages a variety of large West End productions, including Annie starring Lesley Joseph, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Adventures In Motion Pictures; Swan Lake and The Car Man, West Side Story and Dr Dolittle starring Russ Abbot.

The Regent Theatre, Stoke-On-Trent
Originally opened in 1929 as a super cinema, it's first presentation was a silent film, The Last Command. The foyer was luxuriously decorated in the fashionable Art Deco style, with similar splendour in the auditorium and its reputation grew for presenting Sunday concerts.
In 1950 there was a name change to the Gaumont and the venue became part of the increasing touring pop concert circuit in the 60s and was extensively used for amateur operatic and musical comedy productions. It 1974 it was given a triple screen and renamed the Odeon Film Centre two years later. In 1989, following the opening of a six screen Odeon at the Festival Park, it closed.
Following a three year, £23 million development of the city centre, The Regent was reopened on 22 September 1999 after being fully restored to its previously elegant Art Deco style and has already been visited by a host of distinguished guests including Sir Derek Jacobi. Her Majesty the Queen officially opened The Regent Theatre in October 1999.
As a number one touring venue, The Regent is capable of taking the largest touring productions and has already played host to the very best opera, dance, drama and musicals, direct from Broadway and the West End.
Most notably Glyndebourne Touring Opera has relocated its northern operation from Manchester to the Regent, attracted by the outstanding backstage and front of house facilities that the venue offers. Other highlights have included Royal National Theatre's An Inspector Calls, Royal National Theatre's Noises Off, Adventures in Motion Pictures' Swan Lake and the West End smash hit Saturday Night Fever.

The Sunderland Empire
Vesta Tilley laid the foundation stone of what is now the Sunderland Empire on 29 September 1906 and took to the stage on 1 July 1907 to officially declare it open.
The theatre was masterminded by two of the contemporary heads of British theatre, Edward Moss and Osward Stoll but it was a third man, Richard Thornton, originally from South Shields, who bears far greater significance to the Sunderland Empire.
Thornton came from humble beginnings to rapidly climb the theatrical ladder and on his re-location to Sunderland, he quickly established control of "The Avenue Theatre and Opera House" and "The Theatre Royal". In a short space of time, Thornton was successful and wealthy enough to enter into partnership with Edward Moss, thus forming an organisation that transformed the northern theatre provinces of the early 1900's.
The Sunderland Empire has changed considerably since 1907. Originally, the domed tower was surmounted with a revolving sphere which bore the figure of "Terpischore" the Greek Goddess of dance, not as is commonly thought, Vesta Tilley. There were many main entrances to the theatre, each of which had their own payboxes - little arched hatches in the walls where you brought your ticket and then, having gone through a tiny entrance in single file, you were able to take your seats. Incidentally, these doors can still be seen on the outside of the theatre.
After the depression of the twenties, a revival came to theatre during the late 1930's. By the outbreak of war, theatre was back on its feet with summer rep at the Sunderland Empire keeping the place open even during its normally "dark" months.
During the forties, the theatre could do no wrong as everyone was desperate for entertainment but then came the fifties and the advent of television and cinemascope.
The owners of the Sunderland Empire decided to close rather than watch their glorious ship sink. Remarkably, the Corporation took the unprecedented step of buying the theatre for £50,000. After a short closure the Sunderland Empire re-opened as the first 'number one' theatre under civic control.
Since re-opening in 1960 the theatre has been refurbished and re-equipped three times.

FIRST FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT
The Bristol Hippodrome
A superb example of the grand architecture of the late Victorian era, The Bristol Hippodrome, opened on 16th December 1912, was generally agreed to be Oswald Stoll’s most magnificent provincial theatre.
A unique feature within the theatre is the dome in the roof above the stalls, which can be opened to reveal the sky above. Now that the auditorium is air-cooled the dome is rarely used, but many audiences have marvelled at this event during intervals and still request its opening.
Towards the beginning of the century, the theatre staged a variety of acts as a Music Hall. Since then, and due to the fact that it has one of the largest theatre stages in Britain, The Bristol Hippodrome has established itself on the touring circuit for all major musical productions, thus becoming known as Bristol’s West End Theatre.
Having survived the war unscathed, it was a tragic irony when, less than three years after the war ended, a disastrous fire broke out and almost destroyed it. After a major rebuild/refurbishment period, the theatre reopened on the 24th December with Cinderella to rapturous applause.
The theatre has diversified over the years to encapsulate the full spectrum of live theatrical entertainment. From top West End shows Cats, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Blood Brothers and Grease, to name more than a few, through to regular visits from the best in Opera (WNO & Ellen Kent) and Ballet (ENB & Ballet International), Comedy, Childrens’ Shows, Concerts and even the Circus! They have all thrilled audiences over the years and continue to do so today.

FIRST FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT
Producer and Chief Executive of First Family Entertainment
Kevin Wood is one of Britain’s leading pantomime producers. Over the last twenty-four years he has been responsible for literally hundreds of Christmas productions in London and the provinces. As the Chief Executive of First Family Entertainment he enjoys the position at the very forefront of this British theatrical tradition.
Kevin Wood began his career with Alan Ayckbourn at Scarborough, and has been directing and producing plays and musicals since 1980. He was the founding Artistic Director of Channel Theatre Company, an Arts Council subsidised company serving the South East of England. He moved into commercial theatre production in 1985 when the Board of his subsidised company refused to let him produce a pantomime - it being too popularist! Since he had already signed the contract with the theatre he had no option but to form Kevin Wood Productions, and four years later was the third largest pantomime producer in the UK.
Between Christmas shows, Kevin adapted and directed the stage version of HG Wells’ The History of Mr Polly. He produced the Malvern Festival Plays Tommy Boy by Ted Willis and Shaw’s Pygmalion, and national tours of An Inspector Calls starring Alfred Marks, the RSC version of The Wizard of Oz with Brian Blessed, and the Chichester Theatre production of Peter Pan starring Frank Finlay and Toyah Willcox. Overseas he produced at the Istanbul International Festival, Oklahoma at the Nice Opera House, Annie Get Your Gun on tour in Germany. He wrote, directed and produced The Mystery Plays in Canterbury Cathedral on five occasions, and produced the London Palladium Tribute to Evelyn Laye. He directed and produced a sell-out run of Ron Moody in Oliver.
